Thursday, October 9, 2025

The Unaccompanied Veterans Memorial Ceremony is a quarterly service, held in January, April, July, and October at 9:00 a.m. Shelter C. The Memorial Squad renders Group Military Honors for all veterans who have been interred at ALNC in the preceding three months, without receiving Military Honors, (mainly homeless veterans, and those with no Next Of Kin).

The ceremony opens with Posting of Colors, followed by a prayer, and a poem. Then each name is read, along with rank and branch of service, and conflict(s) served in. After each name is read, a bell is rung. After all names have been read, Military Honors are rendered: Three Rifle Volleys, Taps, and Folding and Presentation of the American Flag to a special guest. This is followed by Benediction, and Retiring of Colors.

Contact Jack Picciolo (815) 919-7507 if you know other individuals or groups who might be interested in receiving the quarterly notification. Any contacts with local newspapers and publications would be appreciated.
